The abbey has a library of 130,000 books and manuscripts, and a particularly important collection of religious engravings, besides valuable collections of coins, antiquities, musical manuscripts and natural history, all of which survived the dangers of World War II and its immediate aftermath almost without loss. Valleys of pastures and rocky gorges, summer sun and winter fairytales, a mild and high Alpine climate – between 500 m and 2,007 m above sea level in Reichenau, experience the joy of nature and a way of living that couldn’t be more mellow, more Alpine, more authentic, international, traditional, and yes, more modern – and all at the same time: now is the moment to arrive, to encounter and experience the present and the past – Reichenau is well worth (re-)discovering, time and time again. A great Alpine experience, culture & relaxation – all year round! Pure mountain air (experts talk of a ‘climate swing’), pristine natural surroundings and the spring which still supplies the metropolitan city of Vienna with precious drinking water constitute the treasures of the mountain world around Reichenau (which has officially been declared a ‘spa resort’ since 1928).
